Two emails coming to me this week have had attachments that I have been unable to open. I click to download them and there is a pop up telling me the attachment is being scanned. It appears to finish that process and then NOTHING!
I use Yahoo for my email, Windows 7, and just ask if there is something else needed in the way of info.
Thanks...Thai

one was a pdf and the other a docx. Gosh I hate being so stupid, but what software do I need?

Hi thai!
I am not sure that your problem is lack of software. To open the documents you referenced (.pdf and .docx) would require a PDF reader such as Adobe Acrobat and Word--both I suspect you have installed on your computer.
I am curious as to the pop-up you mentioned telling you that the attachment is being "scanned." Can you be a bit more specific, i.e. where is the attachment coming from and what is doing the scanning and why?

Yahoo apparently uses Norton to download documents (learned that from the link that Jack sent!)so when I click on the attachment a pop up asks if I want to save to my computer or dropbox, I respond and then the hourglass timer icon thingie pops up and beside it says scanning document...and then nothing! Apparently there can be an issue with two virus programs running on the same machine...Norton and what ever I am using but this has been the case for ages and why now would it create an issue?
Thanks...Thai

This is from the problem child of the board. I had the same problem and I did a "CTL"+"ALT"+DEL" and it worked after. When there is a link in a site, is that called a "Hyperlink"?

I have determined that this is a computer issue and not a Yahoo one. Am currently on a replacement laptop and am able to download all attachments normally.
So am assuming that something somewhere has gotten switched on or off or changed or something.
Since I am in Florida currently for the winter and have no computer dude here, I guess that means "Geek Squad" to the rescue....ugh.
Thanks to everyone for trying....Thai

thai,
I still suspect it has something to do with thew anti-virus you have installed. Go into Virus Controls or something similarly named) in you antivirus program; then Protection Against Viruses; click on Settings and uncheck the box that said "Threats in Web mail attachments". Remember, Yahoo uses Norton to download attachments so you can't have two virus protections "running" at the same time."

DrMark,
Am running Avast Free Version. Went to Security - Mail Shield - Stop.
The bad news, no change in my ability to download attachments, but thanks for trying.....Thai

Hi Jack,
Went to the link you provided and verified that my pdf files are associated with Adobe Reader and docx are associated with Microsoft Office, so apparently that is not the problem either, but thanks for trying....Thai

Hi thai,
Other users have found that to logout and then immediately login corrects this problem. If that works then you'll need to create a new bookmark for the web site.

Another often overlooked solution: Might you have a system restore point from before the problem started that you could restore to? Just a thought.
