A new version of WinPatrol is available for download. If you don't know what this is, shame on you!

Mark, thanks VERY much for posting this. I've been a WinPatrol PLUS user for many years, but I did not get any notification about this update (nor, I think, the last few). How did you know about this update?
I might add that I had a bit of trouble getting the new version to work. The first time I downloaded it, all seemed to go well, but when at the end of the installation I asked it to launch, nothing happened. I decided to reboot. The reboot got WP to launch, but what launched was the old version! I decided to redownload and re-install. At first, it again seemed not to launch, but this time, it turned out that the icon was simply hidden in the system tray extras (it wasn't there the first time--I checked). I customized the extras so that it would always appear, and I think all is now well (she says, crossing her fingers).

I have never had a problem with WinPatrol except for a bug that caused Scotty (the dog) to bark at inopportune times. I do know that Bill Pytlovany takes pride in answering any problems and if you have further difficulty, drop him a line at billp@aol.com .

Unfortunately Bill P is no more. He sold the company to someone new; however he has assured all of his many loyal customers that nothing will change. As to Cyberdiva's recent experience, I,too, have never heard of anyone having any difficulty with the updating or installation of WinPatrol.

As to Cyberdiva's recent experience, I,too, have never heard of anyone having any difficulty with the updating or installation of WinPatrol. For those who hadn't heard about Bill P's passing the WinPatrol torch to someone new, here's his account in his blog: billpstudios.blogspot.com/2014/06/winpatrol-generation-ii.html. The new version of WinPatrol continues to behave itself on my computer, but I'm not all that surprised that there were problems. The new version is supposed to overwrite the old version, but the old version is at C:\Program Files (x86)\BillP Studios\WinPatrol, while the new one is at C:\Program Files (x86)\Ruiware\WinPatrol . So I'm not surprised that the new version didn't overwrite the old one the first time I tried to install it. I'm not sure it ever overwrote it, but the new version does have my settings, license, etc.

Ive downloaded and installed the new version, however, it still states its version 31. Is this just a bug in the version display?

Steve, did you have version 31 installed before? If so, you may have run into the same problem I did. I had 30, and when I downloaded 32 and installed it, what came up in my system tray was still version 30. I then downloaded it again and installed it again, and this time, it was version 32. You might try that.

I am amazed at the problems some of you seemed to have had installing WinPatrol. First of all, it does overwrite the previous version on updates and as for the change in identity on this newest update it overwrote the older version on my machine just fine. Out of curiosity, I contacted several friends today who I know also use WinPatrol and they too installed the update with no problems.
As to "steve04," is it possible you downloaded the program from a site other than the WinPatrol website? Sometimes it takes a day or two for new versions to get pushed out to mirror sites for download.

Mark, I'm almost as surprised as you are, but I can only report what I have experienced. I downloaded the new version from the WinPatrol site and it seemed to install normally, but I've already described that what followed was not at all normal. The second time I installed it, however, the new version appeared in my system tray and all has been well since then (knock on wood). However, the fact remains that, although the new version clearly has the information from the old version (which programs should start at startup, my name and license, etc.), there are TWO WinPatrol.exe files on my computer and two WinPatrolEx.exe files. One set is in C:\Program Files (x86)\BillP Studios\WinPatrol\ and the other (the current version) at C:\Program Files (x86)\Ruiware\WinPatrol\. Normally, when a new version overwrites an older one, only one version remains.
We haven't yet heard back from Steve, but I wouldn't be all that surprised if he, too, has two versions in the two directories I've mentioned.
(I'm not sure this matters, but I might add that my computer is using Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.)

Well, as Marck points out in a separate thread, there is now a NEW new version of WinPatrol. The announcement, coming just a day after the announcement of the previous new version, begins: "Thanks to the quick reports from our dedicated fans a new release is available that resolves some errors due to a change to a new default folder." It goes on in more detail, but it does indicate that Steve and I were hardly the only ones who encountered problems, and, as I thought, the problems were related to a change in the default folder. More info can be found at the site: www.winpatrol.com/upgrade.html.

Marck, do you have 32.0.2014 or 32.0.2014.5. The version with the 5 at the end came out a day after the other one. It addressed problems some people were having with the original new version. If you downloaded and installed 32.0.2014 (without the .5 at the end), that may be why FileHippo wants to update it.
