iPhone – Screen Recording
Overview:
iPhones have an extended screen capture function which allows the user to record what is on the screen with any audio output of the phone as a video. You can even add your own external audio (voice over) as the screen is recording. This function is called Screen Recording. Instructions of how to activate Screen Recording and how to use this function are below.

How to Activate Screen Recording
• The Screen Recording function is utilized via the Control Center.
• Open the Control Center and see if the Screen Recording button is in the group there. To open the Control Center: iPhone 8 and earlier -swipe from the bottom of the screen upward….iPhone X or later – swipe down from top right corner. The Screen Recording button is a circle with a solid dot in the center. If this button is there in the Control Center, Screen Recording is activated and proceed to the section on using the Screen Recorder. If the button is not there, instructions of how to add it to the Control Center follow.
• From the Home Screen press the Settings button.
• Scroll down the Settings page and select Control Center.
• Scroll down the Control Center page and note the two groups – Included Controls (controls that display when Control Center is opened) AND More Controls (controls that can be added to the Control Center).
• Scroll down the More Controls group and locate Screen Recording. Press the + to the left of Screen Recording. Screen Recording is activated and its button is added to the Control Center.
How to Use Screen Recording
• Plan the screen recording you want to make. Screen Recorder will record what you see and hear on the phone. That includes any web site video or streaming media. In addition to recording what’s on the phone, you can turn on the phone’s microphone and add any external audio you want such as your voice or music playing in the room where you are recording.
• Open the Control Center.
• Screen Recorder records everything so a notification or incoming call while your recording will become part of the recording. To prevent these interruptions of your screen recording, place the phone in the Do Not Disturb mode. Press the crescent moon button (Do Not Disturb) to silence all notifications. Press this button again to turn the Do Not Disturb mode off. You can long press the Do Not Disturb button to display a context menu where you can schedule how long the Do Not Disturb mode stays on, and you don’t have to remember to turn it off (and notifications back on) when you are finished.
• If you wish to add external audio, the microphone must be turned on. To turn the microphone on or off, long press the Screen Recording button (circle with dot in center) to display the Screen Recording menu. Below the menu is the button to turn the microphone on or off. Note: If the microphone is turned on it will stay on for the next recording. It will stay on till you turn it off. You can start the recording from this menu.
• If you do not want external audio, tap the Screen Recording button to start the recording. When the start recording button is pressed in the Control Center or in the Screen Recording menu, the button will show a countdown of 3 seconds. This 3 second countdown gives you time to close the Control Center and display that which you want to record.
• While you are recording there may be a red line at the top of the screen indicating that you are screen recording. This red line can be tapped to stop the recording. Streaming videos and some other media may prevent this red line from showing at the top of the screen.
• To stop screen recording, open the Control Center and tap the Screen Recording button.
• All Screen Recording videos will be stored in the Photo app with your other videos.
