iPhone – Make Touch ID Work Better
Overview:
iPhone models 6 thru 8 (and SE in 2020) came with Touch ID (fingerprint technology) and a home button. Newer models use face ID and no default home button (many users add a home button to these newer models). Many users have reported problems in using the Touch ID and that it takes several attempts before the phone recognizes their fingerprint. The main reason this occurs relates to how the user placed their fingerprint into the phone’s memory. Since it was probably the first time they performed that task, they played with it was just enough to meet the phone's minimum needs for the fingerprint recognition function. This means the finger must be placed on the home button in the exact same position to get an exact match of that minimum area of the fingerprint to meet the minimum requirements for recognition. Each time you place your finger on the home button the position of your finger usually is in a slightly different position; thus, you have to reposition the finger until you hit that exact same position. There are two solutions for this problem to make the Touch ID work each time you place your finger on the home button….1) Learn how to enter your fingerprint into the phone such that the entire fingerprint is recognized and slight position differences don’t matter. OR 2) Enter multiple fingerprints of the same finger such that each entered fingerprint recognizes a different minimum area and combine will represent the entire fingerprint so that slight position difference not recognized by Fingerprint 1 is recognized by Fingerprint 3 resulting in working on the first try. Solution 1 may not be possible for a lot of users, so Solution 2 is the best answer and what follows are instructions of how to implement that solution.
How to Make Touch ID Recognize Your Fingerprint Better
Touch ID generation 2 allows the entry of 5 fingerprints for recognition and passcode access. If you enter the same finger for each of the 5 fingerprint entries, the process creates a detailed analysis of the fingerprint that a slight position difference still allows the fingerprint to be recognized and thus work on the first try. What follows are instructions on how to enter a fingerprint for Touch ID. Repeat those instructions until you have 5 fingerprint entries of the same finger.
How to Enter a Fingerprint into Touch ID
• From Home screen select the Settings button.
• Scroll down the Settings page and select Touch ID & Passcode.
• Enter your passcode.
• Scroll down to Fingerprints section.
• Select Add a Fingerprint…
• Follow the on-screen instructions (yes, read them…they tell you what to do).
• If you have a fingerprint that you want to replace, select the fingerprint listed and select the Delete Fingerprint button.
Give it a try and see the difference it makes.
