lots of options for those folks who need closed captions, have a fast Internet, AND a landline. Unfortunately most of us severed our ties with landlines years ago and depend on cell phones. That seemed to leave me out of the loop until now, when I discovered ClearCaptions at clearcaptions.com/? . If you have an iPhone (not yet available, but soon, on android) go to App Store and download the free ClearCaptions app. Setting up an account is fairly straight forward and incoming/outgoing calls are then forwarded through their server on a uniquely assigned number. The scrolled caption of the conversation is quite accurate, but you will have to certify that you have difficulty hearing on the phone. The service is free and paid through federal funds. If anyone else uses your phone, you won't want to use the call forwarding feature which allows all calls to come through their server and be captioned. In this instance, you would simply provide the unique number for incoming calls.

Hi Jack,
I wonder how it does when the caller has an accent. Even if they speak loud enough for me to hear them, I still have trouble understanding what they said. Just a thought. Sounds like a good service that I need to look into.

I know what you mean, Dana. Although I haven't tried dealing with the third world's accents on closed caption, I usually depend on the online chats if I encounter these; otherwise I just hang up and take my business elsewhere.
