You might be able to qualify for a free smart phone, 1 GB data, unlimited texting, and 350 free minutes per month at qlinkwireless.com . Several government programs qualify, as did my service-connected disability. Worth a shot.

I've tried QLink and frankly the ZTE smartphone they provide is anything but smart, it's a piece of Chinese junk. There's an alternative for the same free service if you qualify, although I don't know what phone they provide. It's SafeLink at www.safelinkwireless.com and they provide excellent customer service, unlike QLink's nearly nonexistent service. I'm transferring service to SafeLink and placing it on my Samsung Tracfone as soon as the paid service ends or nearly ends.

Just a quick followup: The Safelink service works well and the 350 free minutes isn't even needed if you enable WIFI calling near a hotspot. Calling is then unlimited. And the phone they provide is also a ZTE but an upgraded version which so far has worked flawlessly. It comes with DUO, a video calling ap that interfaces well with IOS on an iPhone. I'm well pleased with this free service!
