Since the second week of January (approx.), I get an error message saying the thread cannot be found when I attempt to read this forum's posts with the Feedly rss reader. Perhaps a member here who has connections with the Proboard people might help. Feedly worked fine for the forum before then. I contacted Feedly help and they suggested <guid isPermaLink="false"> needs to replace the <guid> tag in the xml feed document. Example from current xml document: <link>http://neatnettricks.freeforums.net/thread/600</link> <guid>http://neatnettricks.freeforums.net/thread/600-2024</guid> . Feedly claims that without <guid isPermaLink="false"> , the <link> won't be read as the correct url to the post. If I delete the "-2024" from the "url" shown in the <guid> element and reenter the url, all works fine. Can someone who knows more then me run this down? Thanks

I've referred this to Proboards. Stay tuned.

Thanks, Jack. I was hoping I'd make a connection with you! The forum still works fine with Feedreader and Inoreader aggregators, so they must use different coding. But from what I've been able to piece together, what Feedly suggested sounded reasonable. I don't want to switch from Feedly.

ProBoards replied:
The <guid> element stands for Globally Unique ID, and provides a unique string for the RSS item in question for use in RSS readers. Some reader applications apparently have trouble distinguishing <guid> items from the actual item's URL, though, which I can't really explain.
This issue was first brought to our attention by a Thunderbird user (another RSS reader, but experiences the same issue). A ticket was created with our developers to look into the issue further, though we do not have an ETA for when it may be fixed. Once the issue is fixed for Thunderbird users, it should also be corrected for other RSS readers with the issue as well

FYI, this is what the Atom spec says about GUID item: www.rssboard.org/rss-profile#element-channel-item-guid"If the guid's isPermaLink attribute is omitted or has the value "true", the guid MUST be the permanent URL of the web page associated with the item." feedly's crawler is rather permissive, but in this case we rely on the GUID to detect duplicates and updates, and the guid takes precedence over the link element when it comes to providing a canonical URL to the article.

I'm looking forward to the fix made by the proboards coders. Piecing together what I've read here and on the proboards support forum threads related to this issue, I've discovered that the url neatnettricks.freeforums.net/post/2024/thread/600 goes straight to the post within the thread (for the example in my original posting of the problem). Perhaps something like this in the <guid> element of the feed code would work. Just guessing.
