have for years bemoaned the apparent absence of any repair facilities for modern printers and now have four nonfunctioning devices sitting in my attic. Companies touting their commitment to 'greenness' might re-examine the "It's cheaper to buy a new one than to repair one" philosophy. At any rate I currently am using an HP Officejet 6600 and find that when scanning for subsequent OCR processing and doing so from the printer control panel, there appears to be no (i) step in which one can specify the destination of the scanned file and (ii) no indication of where the file will end up. If I do find the location, it is by chance or through a basic Windows search. I can find nothing about this in the user's manual or on line. When I run a scan from the computer (as opposed to from the printer controls), I can set the destination but seem to be unable to scan multipage documents. And if anyone can recommend a good OCR program that I can integrate with this printer, Word 2007 and XP, I send them all my HP printer carcasses (and 32 varieties of unused ink cartridges).

Thanks (again) Drcard. I'll check out the links you supplied. I know the HP came with the software since I've already scanned several documents. My only issue was where did the scanned files go. I just scan text but some of it is pretty bad - 3rd or 4th generation copies of legal documents from the 1940's - so the OCR capabilities is important. I was quite pleased with the software that came with a prior Canon printer but less than charmed with HP's bundled program. Still no glitches with your unformatted paste macro. Cheers
