The online manual says I can do this. I have the correct size paper. I feed it through the ADF not place it on the platen glass. What I get is a nicely copied 8.5 x 11 copy!!! There seems to be no settings to change the paper size or at least none that I can find. Thai....needing help again

Hi thai,
The setting for copying is in the Menu on the printer/copier. Once Copy is selected, press the Menu key. Look at the small display on the printer/copier. The left and right arrows changes what selected on the screen, and once you have selected what you want to change, press the OK button. The menu continues to the next item that can be adjusted. Most of the time you don't need to change the intensity or other settings and just want to change the page size. Page size is one of the options in the Menu. So, you will open the menu and press OK to scroll through the menu until you get to page size. Use the left and right arrows to select the page size you want and then press OK. The Menu will exit when you OK the last item in the list.

Hi drcard,
I had the settings correct (I am almost sure I did) but now I have pushed so many buttons I am almost sure as well that I have totally put this thing in to printer heaven!
Now...I can't get it to print a normal (letter) size page. The ADF is apparently not working now...I have the machine set on copy, 01 copies and when I place a page on the top tray(ADF), it beeps (as is normal)BUT then the display tells me to place the document on the platen!!! IT will NOT feed through. So upon placing it on the platen, it does copy but OMG it is so incredibly slow as to be horridly painful....
What HAVE I done? But more importantly HOW do I fix it?
Thai

Hi thai, These printer controls through a small LCD screen can be a PIA. Ultimately the only way to get them acting right again is to follow the printer's manual instructions that lead you step by step to navigate the screen. Within those screen options will be one to reset the settings (but all settings may not reset). The increase in time is usually because you set the resolution to a higher setting....higher resolution means longer scan time. The link below is to download the manual if you don't already have it. Look in the table of contents for LCD controls. Canon MX470 Series Manual

Dana,
I can not begin to thank you enough! I went to the online manual and to: reset the settings and voila! Success. I still can't print the legal size document BUT I CAN copy letter size normally.
So thank you for leading me in the right direction....Thai

Just as a follow up to the above...I emailed Canon and they responded with very detailed instructions on how to set the settings and it worked!
Seems like what I was not doing was pushing 'copy' after I changed the setting to legal size paper.
At any rate, I now know how to do it!
Thanks again Dana for your help...Thai
