In attempting to view Fox videos through my Firefox browser (V 19.0.2) I get an error message that the source isn't supported. The same video displays fine with Internet Explorer, so I'm reasonably sure it must be something to do with Firefox. Suggestions? Attachments:

Hi, Jack. Your message piqued my curiosity, since I too am running Firefox 19.0.2. I went to Fox and tried viewing some videos, and I had no problem. I then went to the Mozilla Forums site, and apparently a number of people have reported a similar problem. One person responded to this issue as follows: "That usually means that the build-in HTML5 media player is used in Firefox and that only formats that Firefox doesn't support are available like H.264.
Is it possible to have the videos use a Flash player on the Fox news site?
You can try to clear the Fox news cookies to reset possibly stored settings.
Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies" "
Elsewhere, I saw a suggestion indicating that Firefox will not show material if it requires an updated version of software that has had vulnerabilities in earlier versions--for example, Flash or Java. Any chance that your Flash/Java/whatever programs need updating?

Yep. Fox videos work fine for me also (unfortunately).

Tools>Options>Privacy is displayed on my Firefox 19.9.2, but not "Cookies" and "Show Cookies". And my Flash & Java are surely updated because it nags me frequently and I let it do its thing.

Jack, on the Tools >> Options >> Privacy section, you'll see "Show Cookies" about 2/3 of the way down on the right, just above Settings. Also, I doubt that Java has anything to do with your problem, since I have Java disabled and still can see the Fox videos. As for Flash, you can find out whether you have the most recent version here: helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/find-version-flash-player.html

I deleted all the Fox cookies but no cigar. And my Flash is up-to-date. I'll reinstall Firefox if I get a burning desire to view Fox videos and maybe that will do the trick; otherwise .......
Thanks for trying!

How about Shockwave Player? If you go to your plug-ins Firefox will show you what needs updated and allow you to update from that screen. Just a thought.

Jack, on the Tools >> Options >> Privacy section, you'll see "Show Cookies" about 2/3 of the way down on the right, just above Settings. Cyberdiva: Interestingly, my Firefox doesn't display "Show Cookies" as an option. Dr. Mark: And Shockwave Player isn't listed as a cookie, either.

Dr. Mark: And Shockwave Player isn't listed as a cookie, either. Jack, Shockwave should be listed in your plug-ins (Tools>>Add-ons>>Plug-Ins)

Cyberdiva: Interesting. Here's what I see. What version Firefox are you using? DrMark: Shows Shockwave Flash updated 3-13-13. Same as yours? This is strange, since I'm using the same version of Firefox that you said you're using (19.0.2). I'm using it on Windows 7 64-bit--I don't know whether that explains the difference. Also, you give the date of your update for Shockwave Flash, but not the version #. Mine is 11.6.602.180, updated 3-14-2013. (There's a link at the top of my plug-ins page that says "Check to see if your plug-ins are up-to-date." If you have that link, you might click on it and see what if anything it tells you.)

Right click on the video and try disabling hardware acceleration in Flash Player. There should be a small box you can un-check if it is checked, Hardware acceleration causes a lot of problems and always keep it unchecked.

My Shockwave Flash same as yours, 11.6.602.180. I checked all plug-ins and only one that was out of date was Quick Time plug in and I installed the new version, 7.73.80.64 . Went back to the same troubling video that started this thread, same results, still the error message.

The email message containing the video displays an image with the arrow, but there is no option to disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player when I click on that.
