Since yesterday I have been receiving in my inbox, spam emails that have a different look to them. Instead of the box to the left of the email that you check to mark as deleting or send to spam or whatever there is an icon? that looks like a $ sign with a circle of line surrounding it. It will not allow me to select it to do anything with it. I know better than to open it based on the subject line but can't get rid of them.
Windows 7, Yahoo Mail, Firefox browser.
Help!!!...Thai

Those are Yahoo "sponsored spam" advertisements, and "so far" no one has figured out how to get rid of them. (Adblock doesn't usually stop the "sponsored" ads.) Yahoo has made them "un-deletable", cause they get paid every time it's clicked on. You may just have to learn to ignore them.
This is what Yahoo has to say about it: "Free Yahoo! Mail is made available in part by the advertising you view while using our site"

Thanks, Thai and Dr. Mark, for the info re Yahoo's "sponsored spam." I'll be sure not to click on anything that looks like what Thai has described. I have a Yahoo email account, which I use primarily for very unimportant stuff, figuring that if I had to, I could simply delete the account. I don't trust Yahoo for anything more important: too many people I know have had their Yahoo email accounts hacked, sometimes more than once. I have friends who've had AOL and Hotmail accounts hacked, too, but the "winner" among the people I know is Yahoo.

Well now, it is good to know that my system is not at fault BUT not good to know that Yahoo is causing this! I have had this email addy for 10 years and the thoughts of changing now is very unpleasant. What is the vote for a web based email account?
As always...my thanks....Thai

Went to the site with high hopes and discovered that I was already opted out! Thanks for trying Laverne.

There are lots of other sources for webmail accounts, as I'm sure you know. I tried Hotmail long ago, they lost my password, I never went back. I dropped a couple of Yahoo accounts when they started pushing for information of the sort valued by spammers. I now take the service from mail.com which keeps trying to sell me "premium" features but otherwise seems OK. I don't mind the ads though their new interface is a bit confusing and needs simplification. If they get too difficult I'll move on.
