In IE9 go to "Tools" and then "Pop Up Blocker" where you can set the level of blocking you want.

You can ajso download (ABP) Adblockplus. Works great. The problem with using ad blockers on this Forum is that it may prevent display of ads, which is against ProBoard's TOS (terms of service). Granted, ads are a nuisance but they pay for providing this Forum as a free service.

I haven't used Adblock for some years, ever since I discovered it blocking me from doing work on government or banking sites. I expect that this is probably no longer a problem, and perhaps I could deactivate it for certain sites. BTAIM, I rely mostly on the anti-pop-up features of my browser(s)
DrMark has pointed you to the setting in IE. In Firefox, Click on the Orange Firefox in the top left corner, and there will appear a "Drop-down" menu; go over to Options > Options > Content, and check "Block pop-up windows". If there are some sites that you want to accept pop-up windows, there is an "exceptions" button where you can add them.
You will also notice on some sites that there will be a bar appear at the top of the window of the site that you are visiting saying something like "Firefox has blocked a pop-up window" (I don't remember exactly how it worded) and you are given a choice to allow it for that site, or this time only, or never, etc. When you make a choice to "allow it always" Firefox seems to add it into that exceptions section.
If you want, I am sure that some people could point you to the same set of settings in Opera or Chrome...

In Opera you got to "Tools" then "Preferences" and you can set the level of pop-up blocking you wish.
