Interestingly, my Verizon account rolls over on the 18th each month with a new data account of 2 GB for my smart phone. In checking my account, I already see I have accumulated some data usage at about 1 AM on the 18th. I'm not concerned that I'll exceed the 2 GB - I never do - but I feel this is a potential ripoff for some customers, I know I have not used any data on the 18th. Aside from the fact that my phone was off and we were asleep, even if it were capable of using data, I have it set to run off my WIFI while at home and therefore does not rely on Verizon for broadband.
Which just points out that, if smart phone users aren't checking their account balances for data usage, they should be. But the real problem is in accounting for just how much our carriers think we have used. It's much like our electric/gas/water meters. We are at their mercy and we have to pay whatever they say and hope there will be a modicum of honesty.
