Remove “Try New Outlook” Switch in Outlook
What
After some updates to Outlook (which are silent updates), you open Outlook to find a new box in the upper right corner of Outlook asking you to “Try the new Outlook?”. If you have already decided to stay with the Classic view (what you are used to using), this query is an unwanted distraction. The addition of a new Registry key value can remove this “Try New Outlook” switch from your Outlook.
Why
This “Try New Outlook” switch and the query box that opens is not needed and becomes an annoyance if you have already decided not to use the “New Outlook”. Even after responding and eventfully it goes away, it comes back with the next version upgrade. The small amount of time it takes to add this new value to Outlook’s Registry keys is well paid back by not having this switch display after an update.
How
o Close Outlook.
o Open the Registry Editor (WinKey + R, enter regedit, press the Enter key, and Yes to the UAC query).
o In the left pane expand the hubs to go to the following key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Outlook\Options\General
o Highlight General in the left pane the values of that key will appear in the right pane.
o Right click a blank spot in the right pane and select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value
o In the New Value box enter HideNewOutlookToggle and press the Enter key.
o Right click this HideNewOutlookToggle, select Modify..., and in the Edit box that opens enter 1 in the Value data: box. Click OK to close the Edit box.
o Close the Registry Editor.
o When you open Outlook next time the Try New Outlook switch will be gone and will not come back until you change that value to 0.
