Create Tables Quickly in Word
What Instructions for how to quickly create a table in a Word document without using the commands in the ribbon.
Why Having to leave the keyboard and use the mouse to insert a small table in the document you are typing on is a small hassle that you don’t have to endure. The following method uses the keyboard to insert a table exactly where you want it, with how many columns you want, and how wide each column is.
How o Place the cursor in the document where you want the top left corner of the table to be. o Enter the pipe character (|) to represent the vertical line in a table column and a hyphen (-) to represent each character space you want. Example: To create a table with 4 columns with the first column 3 characters wide and the remaining 3 columns 4 characters wide you would enter:
|---|----|----|----| o After entering the above and the cursor is just after the last pipe character, press the Enter key. Word’s Auto Correct function will convert the pipe and hyphens into a table of one row. o Keep pressing the Tab key to create the number of rows you want.
