Prevent Web Search Results in Taskbar Search Box
What
Prevent Windows displaying web search results for searches performed in the Taskbar search box (that says Type here to search) by adding a Registry key value as an off option for that function.
Why
Users that type search items in the Taskbar search box are usually looking for something on their PC or its attached drives and not something on the Web. Most users use their browser and favorite search engine for Web searches. By preventing Web search results, the searches will be must faster (not looking on the Web) and more results of what’s on your PC or attached drives as possible items for your search. This makes it easier for partial word entries displaying the file or app you are searching for.
How
Step1
Copy the following lines of text in bold and paste into a blank Notepad document:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer]
"DisableSearchBoxSuggestions"=dword:00000001
Paste the blank document so that the W in Windows is at the top left corner of the document.
Select File > Save as to open the Save as window.
Select a location to save the reg file.
Enter the File Name: as NoWebSearchTaskbar.reg (be sure to include the .reg as part of the name).
Click the dropdown arrow on the right side of the Save as type: box and select All Files.
Press the Save button to save the file.
Step 2
Open File Explorer and go to this NoWebSearchTaskbar.reg file, right click, and select Merge.
A UAC box will open for Yes to open the Registry Editor. A warning box will open cautioning about editing the Registry and do you want to continue which you answer Yes. Another message will appear stating that the value has been added to the Registry which you acknowledge.
Reboot the PC for the change to take effect. Test it out and see the difference no Web search does.
