Windows 10 – Go Directly to a Settings Page
Overview:
Windows 10 has pages and pages of settings to allow the user to customize it to suit their needs. Trouble with so many pages is finding the right settings page. Seem to remember what setting to change, but often forget how to get to that page other than drilling down thru the Settings to get where I want. A much easier way is to go to a specific settings page directly. What follows is how to go to a specific settings page directly using Windows 10’s Uniform Resource Identifiers (Windows command shortcuts).
Windows Uniform Resource Identifiers (URIs)
Windows URIs are special shortcuts that point to specific page (window) within a multiple page application such as the multi-page Windows Settings app. These special shortcuts will only work as a command in a command box such as the Run box, Command Prompt, and This PC address bar. Since there is an URI for each page and many pages of Settings which results in many URIs. A complete list is attachment below.
As you look at the list, you might say that it is easier to search for the settings page you want than learn all those commands. Let’s take a look at those commands.
• All the commands start with ms-settings: (Think microsoft – settings:)
• The page identifiers after ms-settings: are easy to remember like printers or network.
• If you enter a wrong page identifier after ms-settings: it still will take you to the main page of the settings.
• Once you have entered a page in the Run box, it will remember it. The next time you enter ms-settings: into the Run box, it will display all ms-settings: pages you have entered before. This means after you have entered a particular settings page, the next time you enter ms-settings; it will show that page and you can select it rather than typing it in again. After a while most of the settings page that you go to will be available by entering just ms-setting: into the Run box.
To enter any of these commands into a Run box; press Win key + R to open the Run box.
