Add 3D and Motion Graphics to a Word Document
Overview:
A past Windows 10 update added a new application called 3D Viewer. The 3D Viewer can be used to view 3D and animated (motion) images. The 3D Viewer can also be used to copy the image to be inserted into a Word document. The inserted images with retain their 3D or animated properties. This means the 3D images inserted into the Word document can be clicked to rotate the image 360° in all directions and the animated images will move according to each’s animation coding. Instructions on how to do this are below.

• This method also works to insert these images into PowerPoint.
How To View a 3D Image in a Word Document
• Open the Word document with the 3D image.
• Click anywhere on the image to activate it. When activated, a box with circles in the lines will appear around the image. In the center of the image is a circle with two circular arrows making a vertical circle and a horizonal circle patterns.
• Place the pointer over the circle with the two arrows. Press and hold the left mouse button. The pointer will change and the box lines will disappear. While holding the button down move the pointer up, down, left, or right to move the image and thus your view of the image to the top, back, or any portion of the object you desire to view. Releasing the button stops the movement and the circle with the two arrows returns which you can press again and move the object again. The image will remain activated to utilize this manual movement until you click anywhere outside of the image.
How to View an Animated Image in a Word Document
• Open a Word document with the animated image (also a .glb file).
• By default the animation will be on. The animation (motion) plays for a few seconds and repeats on a continuous loop. These images are also 3D images.
• There are two sets of controls for these images – one to control the animation and one to control the 3D view. Moving the pointer near the image causes the animation controls to appear in the center of the object. The animation controls are typical video controls of pause and play by clicking the displayed control. The 3D view controls function as described in the prior section after the image is activated by clicking in the image’s box (don’t click the animation control circle).
Example of a Word document with both these images can be download from this web page Example Word document with 3D and Animated Images
You may have to Enable Editing of the downloaded document to use the 3D functions.
