Suddenly now my Windows Mail has begun to print email about the size of a postage stamp. Can't locate a setting to increase the font size. The problem is not with my printer, other documents print just fine. I can go to webmail and the same email will also print fine so through the process of elimination it appears the fault is with my windows Mail application. Any suggestions?

Hi Jack,
That problem is caused by your browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome, or Edge) and a setting to show more of a web page. Windows mail must use the browser's application to print. What browser do you use to view the web mail as that seems to print OK and is not the browser causing the problem. Since it is Windows Mail I think it would be a Windows browser like Internet Explorer or Edge. I think it would be Internet Explorer (even if you don't use).
Try this.
Enter Internet Explorer in the Search bar and select the Internet Explorer. You can by-pass all the start up stuff if this is the first time you opened it. Press the gear icon on the top right and select Print>Page setup. You will see Enable Shrink to Fit ... uncheck this Enable Shrink to Fit and click OK. Close Internet Explorer and see if that fixes your print problem.

No, I don't think it's a browser issue. I've tried IE, Chrome, Firefox, and Edge and results are the same. And since my printer works fine in producing output from all other applications, including webmail with my server, that leaves only Windows Mail as the culprit. Guess I'll abandon it and resort to some other email program. Which one would you suggest and thanks, Dana, for your try.

Hi Jack,
I had this same problem with anything I printed from Chrome. Never did find a fix until a new version of Chrome came out and was fixed. Windows mail uses the printer software in Internet Explorer to control the printing. It does this without Internet Explorer ever opening, so to a user it appears that Windows mail is controlling the printing. Other users have reported changing that print setting in Internet Explorer's page setup corrects the problem of printing in Windows Mail. This is an error in the programing that was most likely introduced in an update and will most like be corrected in a future update.
If changing that setting in Internet Explorer's page setup doesn't work, then my suggestions for email app are:
Purchasing - Outlook
Free - Thunderbird
Outlook gives more options than Thunderbird, but it costs more. For me, I choose Outlook; but I got the full Office suite for $20.
BTW: My work around for this problem with Chrome was to Print to PDF (save as a pdf file), then open and print the pdf file (printing the pdf file uses different software to print than Chrome and thus prints full size).

Spent 3 hours with Geek Squad support. They advised a lot of their clients are having the same problem with reduced print size in Windows Mail. They've traced the problem to yet another faulty Microsoft update and they tell me Microsoft is working to correct it. Meanwhile the only feasible solutions are to install a different Email program or print through one's browser accessing email on the server's Webmail

Hi Jack: Dana mentioned that "Windows mail uses the printer software in Internet Explorer to control the printing. It does this without Internet Explorer ever opening, so to a user it appears that Windows mail is controlling the printing."
But isn't IE now not supported and more or less in the same trash heap as everything previous to (and even as much as possible) Win 7?

Hi Peter,
Windows 10 still comes with Internet Explorer 11 as an app. It comes with Microsoft's Edge for a browser. Microsoft kept IE on Windows 10 because some web sites (many were banking sites) would not work with Edge. Just type in Internet Explorer in the search bar on Windows 10 and you will see it. It is still supported thru Windows 10 updates, but these are for security and not enhancements.

Just as a followup, Windows Mail apparently has now been repaired (updated?) and is printing correctly. All is well, until the next update (?)
