Something that happened to me that caused problems that I'll pass along that may help others. I used the email account that my ISP provided. I switched ISPs and besides having to get in touch with all my contacts before the account was closed by the ISP I had to remember all the sites that had my email address as an account/user name or contact email so that I could change the email address. This can also happen if you use a work supplied email for personal use and you change employers or retire. You should use a non-ISP email like google or Outlook account etc.
Besides: I didn't like all the sites having my email address anyway and I didn't want the same email for all the sites (just like passwords). A solution I found was to use Blur. Blur is a browser addon that provides forwarding email addresses which are associated with each site. It can provide a unique email address for each site and it can do this automatically. It forwards all email sent to Blur email addresses to your email address. You can turn off the forwarding if you want for each email/site ie when Amazon starts sending endless emails on things it considers that you would like. You can turn it back on when you actually bought something and need to get tracking status etc.
Now if I change my email address for any reason all I do is log into Blur and change the forwarding address. I actually had one Blur account for sites I used for work and another for sites that I use with my personal email.
