Chrome – Tab Hover Cards Setting
Overview:
Chrome has changed the default action for tab hover. The tab hover function displays a box with the title of the web page and website when the mouse pointer hovers over the tab label. The reason for the tab hover function was to show the full title of the web page and website because the tab labels have a limited number of character spaces on the tab label. If you had many pages opened with similar long names, the tab labels look the same because only partial titles are showing. The tab hover function would allow you to see the full title and web site for each page so you can select the page you want. The tab hover function is limited to one line of text. As titles of web pages increase in the number of characters and names of web sites increase in number of characters, the one line of the tab hover often doesn’t have enough space for the complete page title and website.
Chrome has created the tab hover card function to expand the tab hover function. With the tab hover cards function enabled the mouse pointer hover over the tab label will show a multi-line card that will show the complete web page title and web site no matter how many characters it takes. This function was experimental, but Chrome included it with updates and is enabled by default. Chrome has yet to include a control for this function in the Settings page.
For those users that do not like this function and wish to turn it off, must do so thru the Experiments page for Chrome as this is where the setting for that function resides.
To Disable Tab-Hover Cards
1) Open Chrome
2) Copy and Paste the following address into the address bar and press Enter.
chrome://flags/#tab-hover-cards
3) This will open the Experiments page with Tab Hover Cards highlighted.
4) Click the drop arrow of the settings box to the right and change the setting from Enabled to Disabled.
5) Click the Relaunch button that appears at the bottom of the page, as chrome must be relaunched for the change to take effect.
6) If you decide you want the tab hover cards, then change the setting back to Enabled.
NOTE: With tab hover cards disabled the one line tab hover will still function.
