I'm runningWindows XP, Internet Explorer 8. Occasionally, a small vertical rectangle appears atop my text in an IE window. It has this data top to bottom - 4, Tweet, 0, g+1, 1, f share, Email, Share How can I get rid of this? Laverne Attachments:

Hi laverne, Those social media link boxes are placed there by the web page. These are not typical pop-up ads, so the built in pop-up blockers will not work on them. These social media link boxes are placed there by scripting. To block these you have to block the script that runs them. This can be accomplished two ways- 1) Change the browser settings to block all active scripting or 2) Use a third party software that blocks scripts. When these boxes hide the text that you are trying to read, it usually means that the web page designer didn't customized the script for his web page.
