Problem with MS Update KB4457144, Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Widows 7 for X86based Systems I am running Windows 7. I installed the September update KB4457144 and now Internet Explore will not open. I continually get this error..
Internet Explorer has closed this webpage to help protect your computer. Windows Data Execution Prevention detected an add-on trying to use system memory incorrectly. This can be caused by a malfunction or a malicious add-on.
Has anyone else encountered this? And what is the solution? Thank you. Laverne

Jack, I can't thank you enough! I used your link and checked all my addons in Internet Explorer. It was the Web of Trust (WOT) addon causing the problem. Once I uninstalled that, all is well.
The only solution I could think of was uninstalling that huge KB update which I really didn't want to do. Appreciate your help!! Laverne

Hi Laverne:
I read in one of my on-line newsletters that MS is really pushing to get IE out of action, and replaced by their new Edge browser. If I remember correctly, they want to stop doing those security and other updates, which would mean that IE will become increasingly open to security issues.
I still have not installed Edge on any of my computers until I begin to see it actually recommended (especially if you are using Windows 10), but keep IE as an optional browser to use when government or whatever sites insist on using it.
If you do not wish to use Firefox or Chrome, there are several others that I have installed, and use now and again:
Based on Mozilla engine are Pale Moon (the one I am using right now) and Cliqz (security and privacy conscious) Based on the Chrome engine: Vivaldi For serious security and privacy: Epic Privacy Browser
But an excellent all-rounder, there is always my default : Opera
I have them all in m "Quick Launch" toolbar, so can use any one (or more than one at a time) when it seems like a good idea at the moment.
Just a thought ...

Hi Peter,
Thank you for your thoughts on having multiple browsers available. I think this is a superb idea. I am not on Windows 10 (still using Windows 7) so do not have access to Edge. And I need Internet Explorer to get the monthly MS updates. I do have Chrome installed and use it when IE gives me problems. But I really like the idea of installing a number of alternative browsers -- at least more than the one additional one that I have.
When I get some ambition I will look into doing this. It's nice to have your suggestions on which browsers seem preferable. Thanks.
Laverne
