Running Windows 7 Pro. When I tried playing a movie from my Amazon Prime watchlist using Internet Explorer 11, I got a message that Silverlight was required. I would like NOT to install this if at all possible.
The further information said, "try using our new HTML5 video player on Chrome, Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Edge or Opera." I have searched on how to make the HTML5 player available for IE 11 -- but have not been successful.
How can I get IE 11 to use HTML5 video player for these Amazon movies? Any help would be appreciated.
BTW, the Chrome browser worked just fine for watching the movie. I don't know which player it used. But I would like to use IE 11.

Hi laverne,
HTML5 video coding in IE11 is not supported in Windows 7 (only Windows 8 and up). The reason is that the codecs needed to render the video are part of Windows 8 and above versions installs that Windows 7 installs doesn't have. The way the HTLM5 video uses these installed codecs is so different that just installing the codecs won't work. Hence the message that the Siverlight player must be used to watch these videos in IE11 on a Windows 7 system. Sorry, this is one of those leaps in technology that causes changes we are not happy with. Manufacturers should learn that progress is just not changes, true progress is changes people LIKE.

Hi Dana,
So it is Windows 7 that is the problem. Thank you. I suppose I will just get Silverlight and be content.

Hi Laverne: I am not sure about all the technical stuff here, but have you ever looked at VideoLan (VLC) player? I use it as my default for almost all visual stuff, except for photos, as I am so used to IrfanView. You can check it out at: www.videolan.org/vlc/I have used it for years, going back to Win 97 days -- well at least XP! Peter
