Strange deviation from previous updates (Windows 10): large banners announcing "Hi, we're installing new tweaks and features" (or similar wording) and this goes on for seemingly an hour, along with an assurance that all files will remain unchanged, etc. Then at the end, my toolbar was totally missing and no icons would access mail, browser, etc. Nothing seemed to work. Rebooted but no change. After another hour or so the toolbar returned and everything seems to work OK. Have no idea what wonderful features and tweaks were added. Thanks once again, Microsoft.

Yikes! I'm becoming ever more hesitant about installing the "upgrade", and hanging on to my Win 7 system past the 1-year freebie instead. Perhaps if ever I do have to move to the 10 version, I will just grit me teeth and pay for the darn thing. In any case, all the best for the New Year.

Amen, Peter. You'll see my views just added in the Software section. Meanwhile, check out what Jack Wallen has been saying about Linux Mint 15.15 and Ubuntu GNOME3 in his Tech Republic bulletins. There seem to be better answers.
And may we both find we've jumped the right direction in the New Year!
