I am looking for a spell check that sits in the background and will auto spell in e-mail/word without checking on it. Also it will check the spelling if you use CTL and the Word. I hope I am explaining this half way correct.

Hi Older: The Panel reviewed a spell-check program called As-U-Type from Fanix software a number of years ago. I do not remember what the other panel members wrote about this program, but I liked it very much. I would have kept on using it, and purchasing upgrades as they came along. Unfortunately, it conflicted with another program which I need far more than this particular spell-checking program. I corresponded with the developers of both programs to see if there were any possibility that the two programs could co-habit on the same computer, but there were technical reasons why they could not do so. So I had to let As-U-Type drop. You can find As-U-Type at: www.fanix.com/asutype.htmlCurrently I use Spell Check Anywhere which works for me very well indeed. But it does require that I highlight the text that I want to check, and run it. Its advantage is that I can use it with all my programs. All the words that I include in my own personal dictionary will also be checked, along with the rest of the text. So I am not continually doing the "Add to dictionary" process that I would normally have to do with each individual software program. Like each browser (I use 4!), text editor or word processing program, email program, etc etc.. You con find Spell Check Anywhere at: www.spellcheckanywhere.com/There are free Spell Checkers, but none of the ones I have tried do as well as Spell Check Anywhere.

Hi older, Another good choice is tinyspell. There is a free version and a paid version ($10). The free version does a very good job and the paid version gets into functions like auto replace. It will spell check for everything you type on a PC including the names you type in for a file. The link below takes you to the site and you can check out all its features. tinyspell

Hi Older: TinySpell is also an excellent suggestion. Particularly since there is a free version The only problem I had with TinySpell was that its print size was also tiny. That might be due to a setting in the program or on the monitor. If you do try this one out, and you have that issue, let us know, and I (and probably Dana also) will look at it and see if it can be resolved in some way. Keep us posted, as I am sure that others will also be interested.
