Here comes the oldie again!!! Out of the blue...apparently.....I am unable to watch any video at all. I follow my niece on twitter and can't see her vine videos, which I have always been able to view. And for a test I went to You Tube and can't get anything?? What in the world have I done now? Thanks Thai

Well whatever I did, I managed to undo it by doing a system restore and all is now well.

Me again.... I am now being prompted annoyingly for a Java Update and I do recall allowing this not too long ago. Is it possible that update was the cause of my problems and having done the restore I undid that update, thus allowing me to view videos? Should I or should I not get this update? Thanks

Thai, it's quite possible that the system restore got rid of the Java update. I'm surprised that it didn't mention that when it told you what programs would be affected, though perhaps updates don't count. Anyway, if you want Java, you should definitely get the most recent update (again)--but even if you have the downloader from before, go to java.com/en/download/index.jsp to be sure you get the most recent, and be sure to uncheck any garbage that it may try to install along with the update. If you want to know what version of Java you have now, you can find out at java.com/en/download/installed.jsp . I might note that, for security reasons, I uninstalled Java a while ago and haven't found that I need it.

Would that update of Java resulted in me not being able to view videos? I couldn't see them before I did the restore and now I can. And that is the only thing I have done so unless it is a huge coincidence, I am thinking this was the issue?
Thanks for the help.

Thai,
Do be aware that many sites do still use Java as well as many games such as Minecraft. Additionally, some Adobe applications, Open Office, GMail, Facebook and many others. It kind of depends on each user as to whether you can do without.
I tried disabling it but found too many sites that I use that required Java. Of course, you can always remove it and then if you find you did, in fact, need it, reinstall. For me personally, I needed it.

Mark, I was surprised to read what you said about GMail. I use GMail every day, and I haven't found a need for Java. ?? Every now and then I also spend two minutes on Facebook, and I haven't seen a need for Java there, either. (Then again, I'm not sure I've seen much of a need for Facebook, either ;D )

Thanks, Mark, for your reply. Since I don't use Facebook's chat, Farmville, or anything else that seems to need Java, I guess my not having it is no problem. As for GMail, the link you cited talked about the fact that GMail uses JavaScript, but it said nothing about GMail's using Java. So as far as I can see, I don't need Java for Gmail. And, as the article also said about Java, "if you're not using it, don't have it installed."
