I just bought an HTC Desire 816 smartphone that runs Android KitKat 4.4.2. Before today, I was able to capture screenshots the same way I do so on my Nexus 7 tablet, by holding down the Power button and the Volume control button. But today, I did that and received a 2-line notification that said: Couldn't capture scree... Couldn't save screenshot. Storage ma... I tried to hold it lengthwise so that perhaps more of the message would show up, but although I have auto-rotate checked and it works on other screens, it doesn't do so here. I have no idea what the problem is. I think I have plenty of storage space. Ideally, I'd ask this question on a forum devoted to the HTC Desire 816, but I haven't found one that is both active and tolerant of newbie questions. So I'm posting my question here, on the forum I love best. I'm hoping someone may be able to help. Thanks in advance.

I am happy to report that the problem seems to have cured itself. I decided to make another screenshot and see what happens. I made a screenshot of my phone's home screen, and to my surprise and delight, the screenshot was successful, and, as an added bonus, the puzzling failure notification disappeared from the notification bar. I don't have the slightest idea what made the difference, but for now I'm not going to worry about it (well, not much). I suspect I may be back with more smartphone questions.
