So out of the blue, when I try to type an apostrophe I end up with an accented e.
Am pretty sure I have inadvertently hit some combo of key strokes, but which onesÉ (apparently can not do question marks either!)

Never mind...found it myself. Control+Shift.
I do believe I am getting better at this....lol.

When that happens to me it is because the keyboard has changed from US to Canadian French. Im not sure how it happens but there is an icon on my task bar that i can choose which keyboard to choose to fix it.

And you are right Control shift toggles through the keyboard selection

I did go through Control Panel making sure I was still on English (US) Canadian, and I was but it still made no difference until I did the keyboard control+shift.
