I received notice of this update today (KB 2964358 is the Win 7 version for people who already have an earlier update installed). The weird thing is that it's said to be "important" rather than "critical," and that it wasn't even checked for me. That's usually an indication that I shouldn't be in a hurry to install it. So I'm holding off for the moment. Since I almost never use Internet Explorer, I don't think there's a need for me to rush. But I am quite puzzled about why it wasn't checked (i.e., selected) for me.

after reading about the importance of the update, i checked the history of microsoft updates since i got the computer in aug 2008 and the highest importance was "important". critical does not seem to exist. cp

It's true that "critical" isn't used all that often, but I'm not so sure that it doesn't exist. I read Susan Bradley's "Patch Watch" column in the Windows Secrets newsletter, and from time to time she calls attention to a "critical" update. And when she talks about updates rated "important," she often says "just important," as opposed to critical. As for KB 2964358, I'll probably install it eventually, but since I very rarely use Internet Explorer, I don't feel much urgency.

Installed the patch, no reboot, no problem. While it is true that it was not rated "critical," I think the fact that they released it out of cycle and so quickly should tell you volumes.
I use IE more now than I did as it has advanced significantly. I think IE11 probably stands up with the rest of them as far as speed and usability. My default browser is still the old version Opera.

I'm glad to hear that you had no problems installing the patch. I might note that I just took a look at the Microsoft bulletin about this patch, and I was interested to see that in that bulletin, they list it as Critical for most systems, including my Windows 7 64-bit with Service Pack 1. I'm not sure why it's listed in the updates list we all received as merely "important." I guess I'll install it, even though Pale Moon is my default browser, with Opera 12.17 my alternate. (Then comes Firefox 28, with IE 11 coming in 4th.)
