Not only did it not back up anything, but lost me my internet connection. This is a reputable product, so I'm pretty sure the error was on the user end. I am running XP, and it supposedly supports that. Any suggestions?
BTW, even though my experience today was so bad, was SUPER HAPPY to see this forum. Thank you for starting it.

Hi freesia792,
Which Toshiba HHD did you get? The comment about losing your Internet connection suggests that you were trying to do some cloud backup which could explain why you see no backup. Usually the manual or instructions for using such pre-installed software will be in a folder on the HDD you purchased.
That being said, the backup software that comes with these drives differ dramatically in how they are used and what they will backup. Some require the HDD to be created as a bootable drive (the restore is to boot to the HDD and restore from there). It depends on the software that came with it.
Is the drive connected to a 3.0 USB port (these will have a blue ring around the port on the PC...I doubt that you have a 3.0 port since your running XP)? The reason I ask is that only the top of the line newest motherboards support booting to a 3.0 USB drive. Thus in most cases you can backup using the 3.0 port, but must connect to a 2.0 port in order to see the drive on a restore boot.
