As a daily reader of Neat Net Tricks I think there should be a section for reporting different updates and on the same section, report fake updates.Does anyone think this might be a good idea ??

I think marck offers a good suggestion. I wonder though if we might expand that idea to sort of a Computer News forum in which we could post news regarding updates, scams, news about problems with new software or browser releases, what's new in the world of computers and computing, and so on. Comments?

I think it would be easy enough to do as long as it is kept simple as not to complicate things with too many different subjects.

I come here every day to read new posts and think this is a fantastic idea...especially for us older computer users who did not grow up on the keyboard and are winging it! How I have not gotten myself in to more trouble than I have is beyond me, but I know I can always come here for someone to bail me out...lol. Having somewhere to go and check to see if it is a smart move...BEFORE....I do it would be a great asset.

There seems to be some popularity for such a forum. Let's see if we get any more comments in the next few days and if we seem to still have a consensus I will consider starting a new category as I agree that this could be of some value. We can thank "marck" for the suggestion.

I guess getting everyone to give an opinion one way or another is harder than I thought.Except for when they need help.

The proposed section might be a useful addition, but I'd like a little more information first about the purpose it would serve and what sorts of information it would include. Does "reporting different updates" mean that every time any piece of hardware or software has an update, people will report it? Or does "different updates" refer only to Windows Updates? And if people report "I just installed the latest set of Windows updates and had no problem," that wouldn't be all that useful unless people indicated what operating system their computer was running and the specific KB numbers of the updates they installed, since people don't receive all the same updates.

And not to rain on anyone's parade, but we need to avoid creating new sections unless there is a real demand and subsequent use of them. Case in point: we developed the smart phones board more than 6 months ago and only have 3 topics on it since. There might be a problem in overly fragmenting the Forum and thus making it too difficult to locate topics of interest.

As indicated earlier I will come up with some new category to see if it is popular enough to justify its permanent inclusion. If not, we can simply remove it. While I agree that it needs to have some specificity and not overlap existing categories, at the same time if we try to make it too specific or too limited and dot every "i" so to speak it will become unusable. Two of our newest and one of our oldest members--all regular presences on the BB have expressed a need and while that is not a consensus, in the scheme of regular participation on this board that is a pretty high number and worth a trial, it seems to me.

No need to start a new section. What needs to happen is to keep adding to an existing tread and keep it going.Doesn't mater how many pages. It should be about (lets say) security updates and fakes, any update Firefox.malwarebytes,Northon, any browser.(example firefox 20.01 ) This should be easy and no upkeep.
