As many on here know, I engaged in an experiment about six years ago for an article I wrote for the NNT newsletter in which I turned off all PC security software in mt belief that with careful practices it was not needed. It has been six years and I still have no security programs running. I have a router which serves as my firewall and I use SuperAntispyware and Malwarebytes as my on demand scanners. I scan my computer generally once every 30 to 45 days but rarely find anything other than a tracking cookie. In fact, in the six or so years I think I may have found a trojan two or three times and they were immediately removed--and I am on the Internet an average of 10 to 12 hours a day. People as how my old computer running XP can feel so fast and boot in 18 seconds. Well, aside from a lot of tweaking, the answer is so security programs hogging resources. What surprises people is when they discover that most computer and IT professionals do not use security software. The only "security" they use is between their ears.
