I attempted to copy a rather large folder to Drop Box from my Win 7 hard drive. Unfortunately, it moved the entire folder contents and left just the name of the folder. When I click on it (on my HD), it indicates that file access is denied. When I attempt to copy the Drop Box contents back to the hard drive, I get an error that I "need to provide administrator permission to copy this folder."
I'm obviously doing something wrong. Anybody have any experience with DropBox and tell me how to get this folder back on my HD? I even tried as a workaround to copy it to a thumb drive from Drop Box (which worked) and then move the thumb drive contents over to my hard drive, but I was again greeted with the Access Denied and requirement for administrator permission.

Hi Jack, I don't know what caused it (maybe in how Dropbox prepares a file for upload), but the Access Denied error is caused one of two settings. This is all based upon being logged in with administrator's rights. Permissions: Give yourself permissions: Right click the file or folder and select Properties. Select the Security tab Select your Login from the Users list and select EditMake sure Full control is selected and OK your way out If the above does not work (usually because the Full select is greyed out and not an option to choose), then it is an ownership setting. Ownership: Take ownership and thus you can give your login full control. Right click the file or folder and select Properties. Select the Security tab Select the Advanced button Select Owners tab and click the Edit button Select your login as the new owner OK your way out If the above assume ownership does not give your user login full control then the file or folder is locked. This lock can be undone, but requires either using attribute commands in an elevated administrator's command prompt or third party software such as Lock Hunter. Click the name for the link. Good luck.

Dana, you've gotten me out of a jam more times than I can count. I'm going to split the next PowerBall jackpot with you (Reminder: guess I'll have to buy a ticket).
All the advice you gave still returned Access Denied errors until Lock Hunter, a quick download and a couple of clicks later I'm back in business.
Thanks a bundle!!!!!
