The terms of service you were asked to agree to when you register on this Forum are scary indeed. I asked ProBoards support to comment and they did:
The terms of service is a legal document to protect ProBoards as well as the members that use the ProBoards service. Unfortunately it is a necessary requirement in the world that we live in today; you'll find that most online services have service agreements that often use similar language. In regards to the two terms they outlined specifically though, ProBoards has existed for 13 years as a free service and have grown to be the largest free forum host on the Internet today. While we do have some optional paid features available, we plan to always keep the core service free for members. Also, the content that is posted by you and your members are owned by yourselves; that ownership is not transferred to ProBoards. In the service agreement you are licensing your content to be used in conjunction with the service so that we can display your content to be viewed in web browsers as well as other sources, such as the ProBoards Mobile application available for smartphones.
