Precision Placement of Objects in WordWhatInstructions to adjust the position of an object in Word by point (1/72 inch) increments to all precise placement you desire. WhyObjects (shapes, graphics, images, etc.) inserted into a document to a fixed position often have to be moved to the position you desire. The normal way to move an object with the double arrow crosshair pointer ( ), holding down the left mouse button, and dragging the object is not very accurate and often requires several adjustment until the object is place where you want it. Using the keyboard arrows to move the object you can achieve precise placement on the first attempt. Howo In the document, use the normal double arrow crosshair and mouse button to drag the object to real close to where you want it and release the mouse button. o While the object is still selected fine tune the placement of the object by using the keyboard arrows: left (), right (), up (), or down(). One click of the key will move the object 1 point in that direction. Each point moves the object 1/72 of an inch allowing precision placement. Hold an arrow key down will engage repeating clicks and moves the object quickly. The image of the double arrow crosshair pointer and the images of the arrows on the keyboard will not display in this forum. The link below is for the PDF version of this tip which has all graphics.
