Hi All,
The instructions refer to screenshots “below” where the word “below” is a link to that screenshot. This forum doesn’t allow the links within a document and all the images. If you desire to see the linkable screenshots to better understand the instructions you can download the pdf version of this tip at the following link:
Navigation Tip for the Registry Editor
This is a free hosting site which means that a pop up ad will occur when you click to download the pdf file. Just close the pop up window and download is very quick.
Navigation Tip for the Registry Editor
What
Instructions on how to navigate to a desired key quickly and accurately.
Why
Many users when navigating to a key in the Registry use the expansion arrows (>) in the Navigation pane to open and follow the branches of the key address to get to the key. This involves a lot of clicking and is easy to select the wrong branch from the address given. It is much easier and more accurate to copy the key address given and paste into the Address bar of the registry Editor and have the Registry Editor navigate to the key.
How
Notice: Click the red colored text in the instructions to see the screenshot it refers to. Click the red colored “here” in the return statement below the screenshot to return to the instructions exactly where you left to view the screenshot.
o For example I will use the following Registry key
Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\16.0\Word
o Copy the key address like my example above.
o In the Registry Editor, highlight whatever is in the Address bar as shown below, paste the copied key address to replace the address that was there as show below, and press the Enter key.
o The Registry Editor will navigated to the key with the last key in the address highlighted (selected) in the navigation pane as shown below.
