Hi All,
This tip explains how to change the formatting of a link in Word both before and after using that link. You can even turn a link invisible in the document.
The instructions include screenshots to help in understanding the instructions, but this forum does not support multiple images in a posting. The links below are to download these instructions (with screenshots) from a free hosting site I use. The free hosting site will present Ads when you click to download (how “free” is paid for). Ignore the Ads and click to download the PDF instructions.
I would ask those that follow my writings to download both PDF files below. Each file has the same instructions and screenshots. One file (Change How Links Appear in Word Documents) is in the classic format of the screenshots placed between the steps of the instructions. The other file (Change How Links Appear in Word Documents - Linked) uses a format I called Linked Appendix. In the Linked Appendix format the steps of the instructions are kept together and unbroken and all the screenshots are at the end of the document. In a step of the instructions where the screenshot to that step would be in the classic format is a link that instantly displays that image and a link on the image to return to the exact place you were before you clicked. This way a reader that doesn’t need to view the screenshot does not have to skip over a screenshot to get to the next line of instructions, while the screenshot is there for those that want to see it.
Please download and view each set of instructions and let me know which format you prefer. I am working on the second edition of my Windows 10 Home Users Companion with many more tips and how tos for Windows 10 and Microsoft Office apps and would like reader input.
