Gmail Web - One Click Access to Your Account
Notice: This tip works for Windows 10 where Outlook 2019 is the default email app, a Gmail IMAP account is the default email address in Outlook, and Chrome is the default web browser. It should work for other versions of Windows and Outlook or different email clients, but I was not able to confirm it. Its easy to test and see if it works for you.
What
On a PC where the default email address (account) is a Gmail IMAP account thru the default email app such as Outlook, and the default web browser is Google’s Chrome; you can create a shortcut on that PC that will open the Gmail web site to that default email’s account page showing all folders in that account. This shortcut does not require a login page or opening Chrome first. The shortcut gives you one click (or a 3 key keyboard shortcut) access to all your emails and folders on the Gmail web site.
Why
Whether you access your Gmail account thru Gmail’s web site often or rarely, being able to access those emails and folders with one click or a 3 key keyboard shortcut is the easiest and fastest way.
How
Criteria: The Gmail IMAP account is the default account in the email app that is the default email app on this PC.
Chrome is the default web browser on this PC.
o On the PC that meets the criteria, right click a blank spot on the Desktop and select New > Shortcut which will open the Shortcut Wizard.
o In the Type the location of the item: box, enter
"https://mail.google.com/mail" - (Without the quotation marks)
o Press the Next button to go to the next page.
o In the Type a name for this shortcut: box, enter a name for the shortcut (I used Gmail).
o Press Finish and the Shortcut Wizard will close and the shortcut’s icon will change to Chrome.
o One click of this shortcut and Chrome will open to the Gmail web site to the default email account’s page without having to login. One click access to your Gmail account folders thru Gmail’s web site.
o You can move the shortcut anywhere on that PC, but if you wish to make a keyboard shortcut for that shortcut you need to leave the shortcut on the Desktop. If you like the keyboard shortcut way, you can always make the Gmail shortcut invisible.
o If you use this shortcut on a PC that does not meet the above criteria, it will open the web page to Gmail’s login page.
