Forced Restart for Hung Windows
What Instructions for how to make Windows perform a forced restart when Windows is hung and doesn’t respond. A forced restart would instantly close any open app or file without having to wait for the app to close itself (which is often the cause of the hang) and instantly start a reboot.
Why Sometimes an app freezes and causes Windows to hang and not respond even to attempts to close the app in Task Manager or the hang prevents Task Manager from even opening. When this occurs a user usually powers off the PC with the power button and doesn’t close Windows properly which is an action that could cause hardware damage. A forced restart doesn’t save the work you had open on the PC, but does close Windows safely for hardware.
Note: This applies to Windows versions 7 thru 11
How
Warning: A forced restart will lose anything you were currently working on and hadn’t saved before the hang, but with it hung you couldn’t save your work anyway. o Press Ctrl, Alt, and Delete keys at the same time to display the “Crtl+Alt+Del” screen (which is really called the Security Options screen). o Press and hold down the Ctrl key while clicking the power button in the bottom right corner of the screen which will open the Emergency Restart screen. o Click Yes and Windows will perform a forced restart which will close and stop any hung app or process.
