Hi risman,
That clearly indicates the power management program was corrupt. The upgrade replaced that software with a newer version, which turns the fan on.
Your problem shows how numerous things can be the cause of a problem.
My research did show other Dell users with this laptop had similar problem and was due to a new driver added by Dell's Killer software. Replacing the ntoskrnl.exe driver with Microsoft's default driver fixed their problem.
Glad it is fixed.
Very amazed that you got a SSD installed on one laptop to boot up on another laptop.
