For 18 years NEAT NET TRICKS newsletters carried with them the slogan "No Screwdriver Needed," meaning their focus was on the entertaining and easy things one can do with the computer and Internet without being a technical whiz. Publication ended December 31, 2014, but this free Forum continues as long as there is an interest and need to communicate questions and concerns regarding the Internet and computers.

Explorer only works in safe mode, while firefox and chrome work fine
Just to be sure....I assume you mean Internet Explorer (browser) and not Windows Explorer (file management) since you referred to Firefox and Chrome. If it is IE, then the problem you describe has to do with how IE displays using your graphics acceleration. The safe mode doesn't use graphic acceleration and thus will display. This can happen during an upgrade which is an install with saving prior settings (which doesn't always work). If this is your problem then some simple adjustments to IE settings can fix the problem.
Open Internet Options (can be accessed through the Control Panel). Select the Advanced tab The top setting under Accelerated graphics is Use software rendering rather than GPU rendering. Make sure this box is checked and then click Apply. Close Internet Options and make sure any IE windows are closed. Open Internet Options again and select the Advanced tab again. The setting above should still be checked. Select the Reset button at the bottom. Confirm the Reset and allow it to complete. You will see a black command prompt window open and close as well as a progress list describing the reset tasks. Close Internet Options Open IE and see if it displays correctly.
Its going to be difficult to help you without more specifics. I have no idea what you mean when you say that "explorer has stopped working." This is a common problem in Windows 7 IF you are referring to Windows Explorer as opposed to the browser, Internet Explorer (as Dr Card tried to determine with you). Is it your IE browser that is not working and if so, in what way?

That didn't help, well it did for a couple of boots then reverted back to not working.Microsoft support is no help.I have found a work around,If I permanently run that program as administrator it works fine.Since I only use IE as a backup I dont see any problems.
